Optimise Your Water Networks with Expert Water Balance Calculations

ACHIEVE CONSISTENT WATER DISTRIBUTION AND MINIMISE SYSTEM INEFFICIENCIES

Accurate water loss management starts with effective water balance calculations.

At Aqua Analytics, we utilise both top-down and bottom-up methodologies, ensuring a comprehensive analysis of your water network. Using the IWA Water Balance framework, we identify and measure all inputs, outputs, and losses to optimise system efficiency.

Our team applies night flow measurement techniques to detect hidden water losses during low-demand periods, helping you reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) and improve your overall water loss balance.

How Aqua Analytics turned an outdated plan into a costed roadmap for reducing non-revenue water

A regional council serving a large population was working from an outdated Water Loss Management Plan that no longer gave it clear direction on reducing non-revenue water. It needed an accurate picture of where water was being lost and a practical plan for addressing it.

Over a six-month engagement, we rebuilt the council’s water balance calculations for the whole system and its individual sub-zones, giving a true picture of current losses. From that foundation, we developed a prioritised, costed action plan spanning a 10-year horizon, backed by field scoping of the specific sites recommended for new metering and monitoring.

The council came away with a clear roadmap and full budgetary scope, ready to go directly to market to procure the metering, monitoring, and leak detection services needed to bring its losses down.

Top-Down vs. Bottom-Up Approaches: Which is Right for Your Network?

  • Top-down methodology: Focuses on the total system input and subtracts known authorised uses to estimate losses across the entire network. Ideal for a high-level overview of water loss.
  • Bottom-up methodology: Involves detailed analysis at the DMA or Zone level, using localised measurements and night flow monitoring to pinpoint specific losses within discrete areas of your network.

Combined, these approaches provide a robust understanding of your water balance, enabling accurate identification and management of both real and apparent losses.

The Technology Behind Our Water Balance Calculations

ADVANCED TECHNIQUES FOR PRECISE TOP-DOWN AND BOTTOM-UP ANALYSIS

At Aqua Analytics, we combine state-of-the-art technology with both top-down and bottom-up methodologies to provide accurate and efficient water balance services. Our technology suite includes:

  • Night flow measurement: Continuous monitoring of water usage during low-demand periods to identify abnormal losses – including the installation, monitoring and maintenance of smart devices
  • Real-time monitoring sensors: Track water pressure and flow across the network to detect imbalances and support both top-down and bottom-up assessments
  • Data analytics software: Our advanced smart water network software analyses network data to pinpoint inefficiencies and provide automated water balance calculations
  • Cloud-based reporting platform: Provides clients with real-time access to performance reports and water loss data, at both a system and DMA-level

This advanced technology enables us to provide accurate, proactive solutions that optimise your network’s performance and reduce operational costs.

Our Approach to Water Balance and Water Loss Investigations

Our team at Aqua Analytics combines top-down and bottom-up methodologies for a comprehensive, data-driven approach to water balance and water loss investigations:

Aqua provides excellent reporting with very accurate information to move forward with.
Chris
Very professional, competent operators who complete their work to a high level and require minimal oversight. Often taking the time to go above and beyond when they don’t have to.
James
They are also highly dependable, working safely and adhering to all relevant WHS standards and procedures. Their commitment to customer service, communication, and delivering results has contributed to meeting project targets and saving water and money for the community.
Joanne
Their experience and knowledge in network leak detection are second to none, and there are never any issues when dealing with them. Our experiences with Aqua Analytics have been extremely valuable and enjoyable.
Lachlan
The leak repairs resulting from the project have significantly reduced the MNF. The scheme consistently requires additional supply from a neighbouring scheme due to low yield from the source; therefore, the MNF is one of the lowest recorded since the scheme has been operating independently.
