Providing Advanced Water Loss Management

Assisting with Water Loss Reduction

Water loss management is a vital practice for water utilities aiming to maintain the efficiency and sustainability of their water supply systems.

We understand the critical challenges faced by water utilities in efficiently identifying, monitoring, and reducing water loss. Our mission is to provide advanced services and innovative solutions that help safeguard precious water resources, optimise financial performance, and ensure sustainable operations for water utilities.

Active Leak Detection

Network-Wide Leak Identification
Active Leak Detection (often called Active Leakage Control) involves systematically inspecting water distribution systems to identify and locate leaks, employing advanced acoustic, correlator, or other sensor technologies to pinpoint leaks precisely. These smart leak detection technologies, when coupled with highly skilled and professional Water Network Technicians, ensure a comprehensive audit of all assets within a DMA, Water Loss Zone, City, or Town. Network defects and leaks are reported in a spatial manner using our ArcGIS ESRI software suite, which has full API integration into a range of Enterprise Asset Management tools.

District Metered Areas

Targeted Leak Detection To ReduceNon-Revenue Water
District Meters Areas (DMAs) break a water distribution network into more manageable sections, allowing for precise monitoring and control of water flow, aiding in leak detection and reducing non-revenue water. Our teams can assist with the planning, establishment, daily analysis review and ongoing maintenance of DMAs to ensure they are optimised for NRW reduction.

Pipeline Monitoring

Ensuring Pipeline Integrity and Performance
Critical water pipeline assets often require monitoring with smart technologies to ensure they are operating efficiently, ensure no third-party damage or assist with better asset management. Aqua has a range of pipeline monitoring technologies that can be applied depending on the asset type, material, diameter, access and the challenge being solved. For example, we have acoustic accelerometers, hydrophones, pressure loggers, pressure transient monitors, water quality instrumentation and other vibration monitoring technology.

Real Time Leak Detection

Reducing Leak Run-Time Through Improved Awareness
We can provide, deploy and manage fleets of real-time leak detection loggers. Whether for short-term or permanent deployment, these accelerometers are fitted with onboard NB-IoT modems which transmit data to a secure Cloud Service allowing daily insight into leaks. With the emergency correlating functionality, our teams can now provide a “diggable” location to review daily data. This reduces run time considerably and has an impact on NRW. These devices are available to purchase, rent, or as a turn-key full-service offering from Aqua. All data can be provided to clients in their required format via REST APIs.

Trunk Main Leak Detection

Specialised Leak Detection Techniques
Large-diameter pipelines require unique techniques and technologies to find leaks due to poor sound propagation, rendering traditional techniques less effective. Our trunk main leak detection services focus on the transmission mains of the water distribution system, using specialised techniques to detect and locate leaks in these high-capacity lines, crucial for maintaining system integrity and efficiency. Aqua can offer trunk main correlators, free swimming acoustic devices, and our tethered AquaSnake leak detection system capable of deployments up to 1 km in distance.

What is Water Loss Management?
Understanding the Complexities of Water Loss Management

For water utilities, controlling leaks and reducing non-revenue water can be a significant challenge. To ensure maximum efficiency in water distribution networks, it is important to understand what water loss management is, and how you can best address water loss through strategic management solutions.

Water loss management is the implementation of strategies, tactics, and activities to reduce water loss from a distribution network. Lost water can stem from leaks, burst pipes, incorrect meter registration or other administrative errors. The water lost within the system is referred to as real losses. Non-revenue water is drinking water that has been captured, treated, and pumped but does not reach its intended destination. This can prove costly to water utility providers as it has been processed, and costs incurred, but not paid for by an end customer.

At Aqua Analytics, we are passionate about implementing effective water loss management strategies to improve water utilities’ operational efficiencies, ensure a reliable supply for their customers, and positively contribute to sustainable water networks.
